For this project, JMW were tasked with converting an existing garage to an annex, and building a rear single storey extension.
The original layout of this project - a separate kitchen, dining room, hallway and downstairs cloakroom - created a really dark and uninviting space. Our clients love to entertain friends and cook, and they also enjoy their garden views, but they weren’t able to make the most of either of these things!
Before we could even get started on building we had to carry out extensive works on the drainage levels - this was one of the biggest challenges of this project! There was a huge height difference that we needed to resolve in order for it to work and we involved some of our subcontractors to assist with this.
JMW then built an open plan kitchen and dining space, with a central breakfast bar to create the perfect space for them to be able to have friends round, cook and still be sociable! We suggested that to let more light in, and for them to be able to fully appreciate their garden, that they have bifold doors installed. These mean they can turn their kitchen/diner into an ‘outside in’ space and make the most of the garden whatever the weather!
We created a new utility area and refurbished the cloakroom and installed electric underfloor heating.
